Early in Kayt's writing career, she received a compliment never forgotten.  While a journalist on a weekly Oklahoma newspaper, she wrote a feature article about a master machinist.  After the article was published, the man sat across from her desk, silent for long moments as he sought to express his thoughts.

"You do with words, what I do with metal," he finally said.

She has spent a career striving to live up to his expectations.

Her plays have achieved numerous awards, the latest included a special award for Excellence in Play Writing in the 2016 Region VI AACTFest for her play, "Sheltered Women," performed by her home theater company, Nat Gold Players of Las Vegas, New Mexico. Her plays "The Phone Call" and "Give-a-Shit Repair Shop" have been winners in the prestigious Rocky Mountain Voices play writing competition, and her novels have twice been finalist in the New Mexico/Arizona Book Awards.
